Intergenerational Project - Ballygowan Seniors

Ballygowan Seniors

At Alexander Dickson we are proud of our strong partnership with Ballygowan Seniors as part of our ongoing intergenerational work.  We work closely with Linking Generations Northern Ireland who help to inspire and support the growth of an age-friendly society through connecting older and younger people.

Check out some of our work below.

Intergenerational Week 2023

Members of Ballygowan Seniors got together with pupils and their grandparents recently.  They used the Twinkl Northern Ireland Pots of Kindness resource for their All Ages April grants event to mark Global #Intergenerational week.

P5/6 recently enjoyed a morning with Ballygowan Seniors sharing stories about special personal belongings and making a healthy lunch together. Thank you to Lynn from Linking Generations Northern Ireland for leading another fantastic day together.

Intergenerational Week

To celebrate Intergenerational Week we were delighted to recently welcome Ballygowan Seniors into school along with Lynn from Linking Generations. P3/4 enjoyed planting sunflowers and doing a sweetie trail. We also had time for some juice and buns!

Window Boxes

P5 have been busy helping to plant window boxes with salad seeds to give to the local Seniors. We will also keep some ourselves, help them to grow and hopefully be able to enjoy a summer picnic later in the year.

Special thanks to our local Police Ards & North Down neighbourhood officer who came along to help out as well as our friends at The Hardware Store, Ballygown who provided the soil.

Kindness Postbox

At this time of year it’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of Christmas that we lose sight of those in our community who may find Christmas a difficult time or may be feeling isolated, vulnerable or lonely after another very difficult year.

We’ve teamed up with Ballygowan Community to launch The Kindness Postbox. Over the last week our children have been filling it with cards, letters and crafts that will then be distributed amongst the community.

In yet another year when we can’t welcome the wider community into school to join in our Christmas celebrations we want them to know that we will be thinking of them over the holidays.

Stay safe everyone!
