Pastoral Care and Safeguarding
Pastoral Care
In Alexander Dickson we strive to provide a caring, supportive and safe environment, where each child is valued for his or her unique talents and abilities and in which all our young people can learn and develop to their full potential.
We care not only for our children's academic progress but also their personal and social development and aim to have a close relationship between school and home.
Emphasis is placed on positive reinforcement and praising and rewarding good behaviour. Children are encouraged to be independent, kind and thoughtful towards others and be responsible for their own behaviour and actions.
Safeguarding
The safety and well-being of our pupils is paramount to all that we do.
The designated teacher is Mr R. Lawther who works closely with the deputy designated teacher, Mrs M Muirhead.
Any issues will be dealt with sensitively and Education Authority guidelines will be followed. Staff are committed to building open and transparent links with home, school and outside agencies such as social services, education welfare and the school nurse.
Speak Out Stay Safe
Pupils in Alexander Dickson Primary School work with the NSPCC on their Speak Out Stay Safe Programme. This programme helps pupils to understand that abuse is never their fault and that they have the right to be safe. Buddy the speech bubble helps to encourage them to speak to a trusted adult or call Childline if they ever need help or support.
Talk PANTS
We support the NSPCC's talking PANTS campaign which aims to help teach children important messages, like their body belongs to them and they should tell an adult if they’re upset or worried.
